Justin Phelps was called to the Bar of England and Wales at the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in October 1995 and admitted to practise in Trinidad and Tobago the following year. He has since been admitted in St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, and Guyana.

Justin maintains a commercial practice spanning advocacy and advisory work. He is regularly instructed by corporate and individual clients across the private and public sectors in arbitration, commercial fraud, insolvency, company law, banking, construction and defamation matters.

Counsel in commercial arbitrations. Practice covers ICC and ad hoc proceedings, construction and engineering disputes under FIDIC forms, and cross-border commercial joint ventures.

Acting for both claimants and major media defendants in Caribbean defamation matters. Recent work includes a landmark 2023 first-instance damages award and a successful defence for the Trinidad Express in 2024.
